What to do if you see a downed power line

Fallen electric utility poles or wires sagging pose a major danger and can result in deadly consequences. To ensure the safety of member owners, Roanoke Electric Co-op offers the following tips:

  1. If power lines and poles are down in your yard or the street, always treat them as if they are energized and dangerous.
  2. Never touch them and stay away from objects touching fallen lines.
  3. If someone has already made contact with a power line, do not try to rescue him or her. You cannot help if you become a victim.
  4. Report damaged or fallen poles and lines to the co-op at 252-209-2236 or 1-800-358-9437.
