Meet Roanoke Electric Co-op's 2018 summer interns

Internet Technology Intern April Smith, Ahoskie, N.C.

Soon graduating with her degree in Computer Information Technology from Roanoke Chowan Community College, where she has completed 180 hours IT troubleshooting and studying the concepts behind content sharing platforms.


Accounting Intern Justin Saunders, Rich Square, N.C.

Upon graduation from Elizabeth State University with a Social Work degree, Justin plans to pursue a career as counselor and mentor to individuals working to overcome adversity in their daily lives. 

Engineering Intern Austin Davis, Chadbourn, N.C.

Austin, a candidate in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program at Eastern Carolina University, plans to put his degree to work in his chosen field after he graduates in late 2018. In addition to his Engineering major, Austin minors in Mathematics.  

Member Services Intern Marcasia Smith, Gates, N.C.

Marcasia is pursuing her Exercise Physiology degree at Winston-Salem State University. After graduation, she intends to put her degree, teamwork ethic and communications skills to work as a physical therapist.

Annual Internship Program Overview

Each summer, Roanoke Electric Co-op offers a limited number of paid summer internships to high school graduates. This program gives students the opportunity to connect with the workforce while increasing their knowledge of on-the-job skills and responsibilities. Students apply each spring and are selected based on relevant background, interests and a demonstrated ability to meet the following requirements:

  • a working knowledge of personal computer systems is preferred
  • dependability and availability during co-op business hours
  • a willingness to develop an interest in and knowledge of the ideals and objectives of the co-op overall and that of team and department to which the intern is assigned 
  • a desire to learn and cooperate with fellow employees and his/her supervisor
  • provide two professional recommendations to (upon submission of each year's online application form)


The 2019 summer internships application period will be announced next spring, when online applications will be available at Careers at Roanoke.
