Co-op Board directors Allen Speller and Darnell Lee invite Bertie County member-owners to May 2 Straight Talk forum

Representing Roanoke Electric Co-op's seventh and eights districts comprising Bertie County, North Carolina, co-op oard directors Darnell E. Lee and Allen Speller are inviting the member-owners from their respective districts to join them this Thursday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at Bertie County High School, for the third REC Straight Talk forum of 2019.

The theme of this year’s five-forum series, “The goal of low cost,” speaks to the board’s primary point of focus in 2019. Director Speller, who also serves as Board Chair, stated that keeping rates affordable for the entire membership remains his top priority as board chairman given the distressed economic conditions in northeastern North Carolina.

Director Darnell Lee echoed Speller’s comments, stating that the co-op’s commitment to continually serving the best interest of the membership means that lowering costs, today and in the future, must always be a priority.

“My vision is for the co-op to continue working diligently to serve our member-owners and to develop strategies to help them lower their electric bills,” said Lee.

Speller, who in April 2018 was honored by North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives for having given 20 of years of service to the co-op, regularly encourages membership attendance at the Straight Talk forums each year. Stating that the sessions offered member-owners an opportunity to engage directly with co-op leaders, Speller highlighted the value of this type of co-op outreach and direct member-owner interaction.

“I am especially proud of the co-op’s well-established tradition of community outreach, and interacting with member-owners at the Straight Talk forums is one of best opportunities for engagement we offer the membership each year, “said Speller. “Sharing information on current and future programs available to member-owners can help them to substantially lower their power bills, and the best way for us to do this, and to get their feedback on what matters most to them, is through these face-to-face discussions.

President and CEO Curtis Wynn is also encouraging all co-op member-owners to attend at least one forum of the 2019 series. In the following video, Wynn highlights a few of the upcoming cost-saving programs he and other co-op leaders are outlining for the membership at this year's series.

Member-owners are asked to register for the event in order to secure seats, door prize and meals (dinner is served at each forum). Sign-up is available by phone at 252-209-2267 or email at Registrants are asked to include their name, telephone number, selected forum date and location, as well as the number of guests that will be in attendance.
