Roanoke Electric Cooperative Supports Wounded Warriors

For the third year in a row, Roanoke Electric Cooperative and several other eastern electric co-ops supported the Gates County Wounded Warrior Turkey Hunt.

The co-ops contributed a total of $1,000 to the event, which was held April 20-22. In addition, Roanoke Electric Cooperative staff, Patrice Jordan and Johnetta Chavis, and board member, Millard Lee, were present to support the event.

Seventeen wounded warriors including one Medal of Honor recipient participated in this year’s 6th annual event. With the assistance of 32 volunteer hunting guides, they were able to take seven gobblers.

“This event is for building relationships with these wounded warriors, and these relationships will last for ever and ever,” said Ray Freeman, who helps organize the event with Ray Campbell. Both men work for the Gates County Sheriff’s Department.

Freeman said they are selling hats and T-shirts for $10 each to raise funds for the 2018 event. To purchase an item, Freeman can be contacted by email at rfreeman@gatescountync.gov. Donations can be sent to Gates County Wounded Warriors, c/o NC State Employees Credit Union, P.O. Box 4, Gatesville, NC 27938.

Roanoke Electric Cooperative is an electric utility providing service to 14,000 members in Bertie, Hertford, Halifax, Northampton, Gates, Perquimans and Chowan counties. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
