In the 2012 national elections, voter turnout dropped by 9 percent overall, but the decline in rural counties was 18 percent—twice that of the nation as a whole. Today Roanoke EC is joining a national program to help turn this around by encouraging our employees and member-owners to register to vote and go to the polls in November.
North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, including Roanoke, are accepting applications for the Bright Ideas grant program. The education grants fund creative, classroom-based learning projects. The final deadline to apply is September 23. However, teachers submitting their completed application by the early-bird deadline of Aug. 15 will have a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards.
